C.F. Martin Day is Coming!

Well it's that time of year again and Avalon Music is pleased to annouce that C.F. Martin Day is coming on Wednesday, February 29, 2012.  Our awesome Martin rep Larry Barnwell and Martin guitar guru Richard Starkey will be with us.  There will be FREE acoustic guitar restringing event from 11 am - 3 pm, and then a FREE clinic and Steel String Showdown with Larry and Richard starting at 6 pm.

You won't find twp people with more collective knowledge about the history of C.F. Martin or the making and sound of Martin guitars anywhere - or have more fun with two very entertaining bluegrass guys.

Pearl e-Pro Live Drums!

The Pearl e-Pro Live drums are not only unique, they are absolutely awesome.  Electronic drums can sound great - even excellent - as sampling and triggering technology continues to improve.  The two drawbacks to electronic drums we hear are the sets look "space age funky" and the band doesn't get a sonic "push" from the drums.  well, Pearl has answered these concerns with a grand slam home run.  The Pearl e-Pro Live has real 6-ply Pearl drum shells - a 14" snare, 10-12-14" toms, and a 20" kick, standard drum hardware, electronic cymbals in 12-13-16" sizes made from brass instead of rubber or plastic, and Tru-Trac heads that reproduce all the feel and intricacies of acoustic drums.  No compact pads, so you have the same set-up, spacing and ergonomics as acoustic drums.  Play them exactly the same way as you play acoustic drums.  Awesome!

Line 6 James Tyler Variax - Unbelievable!!

 So . . . part 2 of Mark's demo of new products from Line 6 was the James tyler Variax guitar.  We've all seen or heard about modeling guitars in the past and the reactions have been mixed.  Well, Line 6 has hit one out of the park with this line of guitars.  These a REAL guitars that look great, sound beautiful and play like butter.  Plus, the modeling is unbelievable.  It works!  Two features blew us away - the virtual capo was one and the other was custom programming of the 5-way pick-up selector to indiviual modeling.  As an example, you can assign a 12-string acoustic, dreadnaught acoustic, dobro, electric guitar with humbucking pick-ups, and electric guitar with single coil pick-ups all to the 5-way switch and "change guitars" on the fly.  This is one amazing piece of technology - a customer came in during Mark's demo and ordered one.  Here's a link to the Line 6 website and a video clip.  They are on the way!

Shure Microphone Rebates!

Shure has announced a 30 rebate on PGX Digital Wireless Systems, a $20 rebate on PGX Wireless Systems, and a $10 rebateon SM57 and SM58 Wired Miscrophones.  Rebates expire on December 13, 2011. 

Raking in the Rebates and Promos - Vox, Korg and Lag

New Fender Eric Clapton Signature Amps

Fender has just released it's new line of Eric Clapton Signature amplifiers!  

These amplifiers are handwired and built in Corona, California.  The EC Twinolux™, EC Tremolux™ and EC Vibro-Champ®—are fascinating variations on their original '50s-era ancestors (the '57 Twin™, '57 Deluxe™ and '57 Champ®, respectively), and are Fender's answer to the call for special models with distinctive features.

All three amp models feature 1950's era output tube bias tremolo (which produces a more throbbing pulse than later Fender tremolo circuits) and a switchable power attenuator that reduces speaker output, in addition to other premium features.

Mitch Michkiosky Harmonica Clinic - September 28!

Avalon Music is very pleased to bring you a harmonica clinic with Mitch Michkiosky on Wednesday, September 28, at 6 pm, at Avalon Music.  Whether you're like most of us and have always wanted to play "the harp" - or if your already able to grab a harmonica and join a jam, Mitch will be informative and entertaining.  Some of the topics will be the history of the harmonica, styles of harmonica music and playing, how your embouchure it relates to your tone, lip pursing vs. tongue blocking, proper grip and use of hands, effects techniques, and using dynamics.

Mitch will also talk about gear - choosing the correct harmonica for your style and your band's music, playing with other musicians, choosing keys, and using mics and amplifiers. 

Whew!  This is going to be one information packed clinic!  We'll be providing more information as we get closer to the date about door prizes and our co-sponsors - and to let you know what key of harmonica you might want to bring to the clinic.

Carol Matz Piano Workshop - July 27

Avalon Music has joined with Alfred Music Publishing and is excited to bring Carol Matz to Wenatchee for a Piano Workshop on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.  The workshop will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1408 Washington Street, in Wenatchee.  Just call us at 663-7300 to register or send us an email.  It's free!

This workshop is designed to educate and entertain, while providing new materials and techniques that will revitalize every piano instructor's studio.

Carol is an active composer, arranger, author and editor of educational piano materials. She also maintains a piano studio where she enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities. Carol studied composition, arranging and orchestration at the University of Miami, with an emphasis on studio and jazz writing. In addition to her compositions and arrangements for piano, Carol has written for a variety of ensembles including orchestra, jazz big band and string quartet. Her work also includes studio arrangements and recording sessions for a number of artists in Miami-area recording studios. Carol serves as a keyboard production editor for Alfred Music Publishing.

Carol will be sharing the newest Alfred piano publications, as well as highlights from her own library, including her Famous & Fun series. Her presentation will focus on keeping students engaged by using both pop and supplemental music to reinforce key concepts.
