2011 Purchase Program - Buying vs. Renting?

Although Avalon Music has a very competitive rental instrument program with quality, well-maintained instruments from Selmer, Bach, King, Armstrong, Emerson, Pearl and other leading brands, we highly recommend that you consider buying one of our student instruments, rather than renting if you believe you will be renting for at least 18 to 24 months. It can make great financial sense to buy a student instrument at our discounted prices.

Let's look at some examples. We sell a leading brand saxophone that has a suggested retail price of $1,715. On a monthly plan, rent (not including sales tax) would be $719.82 for 18 months and $959.76 for 24 months. Pre-paying rent for two school years (no instrument in the summer) would total $599.99 (without sales tax). If you purchased the instrument, rather than renting, our price for that saxophone is under $870.

A leading brand trumpet has a retail price of $885. On a monthly plan, rent (not including sales tax) would be $431.82 for 18 months and $575.76 for 24 months. Paying rent for two years under the school year plan (no instrument in the summer) would total $379.99 (without sales tax). If you purchased this instrument, rather than renting, our discounted price for that trumpet is $449.

More examples? We sell leading brand flutes and clarinets for $349 to $399, violins starting at $249, cellos starrting at $679.

Why buy? You will own a quality instrument that is brand new and will still be worth - and can be sold for - hundreds of dollars after your student decides to move up to a pro or step-up instrument or, unfortunately, gives up band or orchestra. If you sell the instrument, you can effectively pay less than $10 for every month your student (or students) used the instrument.

Please look carefully at rental programs offered by other music stores, such as "Rent-to-Own" programs or programs that give you a "rental credit" towards the purchase of an instrument. Avalon Music has stopped using any of these programs because they can be, in our opinion, unfair to the consumer. Most of these programs charge the full suggested retail price for the band or orchestra instrument, which can be almost twice as much as Avalon Music's very competitive selling price, and these stores also build in a charge for interest at the rate of 12%-18% per year. One of our local customers ended up paying almost three times as much for a violin at another store's Rent-to-Own program as she would have paid for a purchase at Avalon Music.

We care about our customers. We've earned your trust since 1992. Please consider buying your student instrument. If you decide renting is a better financial fit, then we're here to serve your instrument rental needs.  You can check out our rental prices here on our website.

School Band and Orchestra Instruments and Rentals

You'll notice some changes when you walk in to the "new" Avalon Music.  Band and orchestra instruments and drums are much more prominent and get the attention they deserve.  More accessories displayed - both in the counter and on the wall.  And the ability to "get away" to demo that instrument you've been dreaming about.

Also, with the new school year approaching, it is important to let you know we have changed our pricing policies on student band and orchestra instruments.  Student instruments are now value priced and purchasing your student's instrument can make great musical and financial sense.

And for those of you with a child you is an advanced student, in high school, or going to college to study music - Avalon Music has just received a selection of professional line Selmer and Bach instruments.  Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous tone, playability, craftsmenship and appearance.  The manufacturer's suggested retail prices on these instruments (not the Avalon Music prices) start at a little over $3,000 and go up from there.  We can save you hundreds of dollars, if not over a thousand dollars, on these instruments.  Do come down to see them.

Darnell Scott and Desert Blues

Darnell Scott is a one of a kind musician up and coming presence in the world of blues, R&B, and soul. From childhood he enjoyed the music of such blues/rock artists as Jimi Hendrix, War, and Santana. Although Scott has had no formal guitar training, his exciting blend of blues, gospel, R&B and Classic Rock is rooted deep in his soul. His command of the guitar is unique and captivating, and he delivers a song with mesmerizing style and originality. The combination of his experience, influences, and his own expressive style is evident in the way he takes authority of his instrument.

Enhancing the talent of Scott are musicians chosen for their professional command of their instruments, stage presence, and knowledge of dynamics it takes to captivate an audience. Desert Blues provides a healthy dose of driving rhythm, soulful vocal performances, and searing blues guitar. Though accomplished in the studio, they are best savored in live performances.

You can learn more about Darnell Scott and where you can hear his terrific music at his website.
